We are Jolly Good Communities — delivering inclusive, wow-factor community events across Barnsley. Our Operations & Logistics Team is essential for making sure each event is safe, smooth, and well organised. From setting up equipment to keeping the site tidy and helping marshal vehicles, this team keeps everything running behind the scenes.
Role Purpose
The Operations & Logistics Team Leader oversees a group of volunteers who help set up, maintain and pack down our events. You’ll help organise equipment, support volunteers with practical tasks, and make sure everything is safe, tidy and running on schedule. This role is perfect for someone practical, organised and confident working outdoors and with people.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
• Leading and supporting the Operations & Logistics volunteer team during set-up, event hours and pack-down
• Helping plan the site layout, equipment needs and workload before each event
• Overseeing the safe set-up of gazebos, barriers, banners, tables, props and signage
• Managing pack-down to ensure equipment is stored correctly and safely
• Allocating tasks to volunteers and offering guidance and basic training (e.g., safe lifting)
• Supporting marshalling activities, such as guiding traders and visitors to parking areas
• Ensuring pathways and activity zones remain safe, tidy and clear throughout the event
• Reporting hazards or issues to the Event Co-ordinator
• Creating a positive, friendly team atmosphere where volunteers feel supported and valued
Skills & Qualities Needed
• Practical, hands-on and confident with physical tasks
• Friendly, approachable and good at teamwork
• Basic awareness of safety (training provided)
• Organised and able to delegate tasks effectively
• Calm in busy situations and able to problem-solve on the spot
• Reliable and comfortable working outdoors in all seasons
• Experience in logistics, events, public services or construction (helpful but not required)
