We are hosting a meeting for the sector to discuss community cohesion and the support that is available to you and your organisation.
The event will provide an opportunity for partners and community stakeholders to come together to reflect on community cohesion across Barnsley.
There has been increasing national and local discussion about social division, more polarised public debate, and the visibility of extremist views and hate-related incidents. While Barnsley continues to benefit from strong community connections and has brilliant support across communities, we recognise the importance of staying attentive to factors that can place pressure on community relations, including periods of heightened public debate such as local elections.
During the meeting you will find out about:
· Useful resources for your organisation surrounding this topic and practical leadership advice to ensure your organisation is safe for staff, volunteers and clients.
· What to do if someone is a victim of a hate crime and how this gets dealt with by South Yorkshire Police.
· Recognising risks on social media and practical tips if your page has been targeted.
· Hear about how local organisations, working with marginalised communities, are navigating work in a hostile environment.
The emphasis will be on support provision, shared learning and positive, preventative approaches that support inclusive and respectful communities across Barnsley.
We kindly ask that you submit questions around this topic before the meeting so we can prepare before the meeting. Submit your questions here.
This event is for anyone in your organisation who may find it useful, including senior management, staff and volunteers.
Once you have booked your place, we will forward the email invite to the email address you have provided.
The online meeting will be hosted on Microsoft Teams on 24thMarch, 1.00pm-2.30pm. Book your tickets here.
