At Barnsley CVS we host quarterly engagement events for professionals where you can network and become part of the VCSE community in Barnsley. They bring all our VCSE partners together with a focus on a specific issue. We are currently developing our training provision, so keep your eyes peeled for updates.

Suicide Awareness

With the ever-increasing rise in mental health issues our suicide awareness session is designed to provide all employees with a comprehensive overview of suicide.

This session equips participants with a foundational understanding of Identifying signs of someone at risk of suicide. Learn how to ask “the question” and review how isolation and negative thoughts can contribute to an individual’s suicidal intent.

Looking at changing behaviours. Think ‘safety first’ throughout to an intervention, how to approach someone and initiate a conversation in a sensitive and effective manner. Learn how to refer someone to the emergency and/or support.

At the end of the session feel more confident and reassured to step in if you spot the signs that someone may be struggling.

Unity and Inclusion Grant Event

The Supporting Unity and Inclusion grant aims to fund small projects, up to £5,000 or £10,000 across 2-years that enhance unity and inclusion across the Barnsley borough. These projects will aim to overcome barriers and improve access and opportunities by actively engaging with diverse groups and individuals, fostering greater representation and a stronger sense of belonging within your community.

Meet the Team over Coffee and Cake

At Barnsley CVS we are expanding and we have a lot of new staff. We are getting out into the community to see how we can support the brilliant voluntary and community organisations. Come and chat with us over some coffee and cake.

When: Tuesday 23rd September 2025, 11am-3pm

Where: Houghton Road Community Centre, Thurnscoe, S63 0JY

How to book: There’s no need to book, just turn up and we’ll do our best to answer your queries.

Parking is limited but there is more parking available across the road.

If your organisation has an annual income of under 100k and is needing support we would love you to come and chat with us. Some of the different topics we can help you with are:

• Grant applications and monitoring

• Community Accountancy, Payroll, and Book keeping

• Volunteer recruitment, selection and retention

• Marketing, publicity and communications

• Basic finance

• Governance

• Funding

If you would like to find out how we can continue to support your organisation or decide you would like to have a future 1-1 discussion we would be more than happy to arrange this.

There will be other voluntary and community organisations attending so it will be a great opportunity to network to find out what else is happening in your local area.

We look forward to meeting lots of fabulous small organisations supporting the community in Barnsley. These meetings will be happening bi-monthly and we are travelling across Barnsley to ensure we reach everyone. If you cannot get to the Dearne on this day, don’t worry we will be coming to your area shortly!

Women’s Mental Health

Delve into the intersection of Women’s Mental Health and the Menopause with our comprehensive course, addressing critical aspects for individuals and organisations. From defining the health context to understanding the nuances of menopause and perimenopause, the program explores the mental health impact on various facets of

lifework, home, and within the body.

Participants will gain insights into the signs and symptoms experienced by women, fostering awareness, understanding, and reducing stigma surrounding the menopause.

Stress and Resilience

This session is designed to ensure delegates have an understanding of what stress is, how stress can impact on our wellbeing along with providing an understanding and de-mystifying any myths surrounding what it means to be resilient.

This session provides provide the skills both to support those around us along with providing a ‘toolbox’ of skills and strategies to both recognise and manage stress alongside building resilience for the delegates themselves.

Attendees will be able to take away and continuously implement these tools into their day to day lives providing a lasting impact from the course.
