Barnsley CVS is passionate about promoting volunteering, including the benefits for you and the community when you give your time to help others.

Volunteering has many personal benefits , including gaining experience relevant to employment or education, learning new skills, improved physical and mental health, making friends, and giving back to the community.

“Volunteering is my lifeline. It makes me feel able to help others, give to my community and develop myself. It means that I can support those who are struggling no matter of the circumstances and it helps to maintain a good mental wellbeing.” -Volunteer in Barnsley

Whatever your reason, we can help you find the right volunteering opportunity for you.

You could join the many people who volunteer across Barnsley every year, either informally in their own neighbourhoods or more formally through a charity, organisation or community group.

Do you need to know a little bit more about volunteering before deciding to take the next steps in applying?

Volunteers

Our volunteer centre is on hand to provide 1-1 support if you would benefit from talking about the best role for you, how to apply or talking through any concerns.  Our team consists of the main Volunteer Development Coordinator and two specialist coordinators for young people and refugees and asylum seekers.

Young people

If you are between the age of 15 – 19 and would like to improve your chances of employment, improve your confidence, gain new skills or meet new people, volunteering is one of the best tools for broadening horizons.

If you would like to start this journey but don’t know where to start, get in touch with our specialist youth volunteer coordinator at volunteer@barnsleycvs.org.uk

Refugees, asylum seekers and migrants

When you want to meet new people in a new country, it can seem overwhelming and scary.  Volunteering is a great way to get to know local residents, find meaningful activity and learn about local customs and improve your English.

If you would like to talk about what opportunities would be suitable for you, please contact our specialist inclusion volunteer coordinator at volunteer@barnsleycvs.org.uk
