Adult Instructors & Unit Assistants
Hosted by: Barnsley Sea Cadets

We are looking for adult instructors and unit assistants to help Barnsley Sea Cadets broaden their skills and experience.

About Barnsley Sea Cadets

Barnsley Sea Cadets is a youth development organisation, which seeks to develop and support young people aged 10-18. We use an informal setting where we train, skill up and develop our young people though waterborne activities, naval traditions and ethos. The sense of adventure and travel excites young people’s curiosity; through the Sea Cadets young people go away from home in safe environments either on training camps or on national and international voyages weeks at a time. Through this young people gain independence, confidence and the sense of achievement.
We have a plethora of, activities and courses from RYA accreditations, DofE up to Gold level, First Aid, CVQO BTEC level 1 &2 in Community Development, and Naval accreditations for marine engineering, meteorology, knots, and stewarding to mention but few. Through our affiliation with the MSSC our cadets have job prospects for a naval, commercial naval, or a seafaring career, accesses to degrees and guaranteed jobs, not just in the Navy, in anything they want.
At Barnsley Sea Cadets, we currently have a great team of Adult Instructors who have either been at Barnsley for a number of years and some who are currently going through the joining process. The Adult Instructors at Barnsley have a wide range of skills and expertise across boating, seamanship, field craft, first aid and band. There is a real energy amongst the adult volunteers that needs to be nurtured and developed.
Barnsley Sea Cadets have been successful in a large number of grants. Due to the success of funding, we are aiming to have brand-new toilets and showers, new equipment, core costs covered for the next 12 months.
We have a very positive image in the local community which has led to requests for band performances and community event appearances.
There has been a recent major investment both financial and in skills development in the unit, with further plans through the next few months.
We have around 30-40 young people aged 10-18 years old who are eager to learn new skills, have fun and get on the right path.
Volunteering at Barnsley will give you a great sense of being part of the local community, enhance your personal skills and give you access to a wide range of qualifications.
