Bluebell Wood offers care for children and young people in South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Lincolnshire and North Derbyshire with a vast range of complex medical needs. We provide support, respite, care in the community and end of life care. Sibling support is also at the heart of our work, as well as counselling, wellbeing and bereavement services.
About this role:
This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to assist our Facilities and Estates Team. We are looking for a hard-working, self-motivated person with knowledge of health and safety principles and experience of caretaking or practical & hands on maintenance and with clean UK driving license. This role will contribute to the successful running of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. This is a flexible role that can be done on any weekday between the hours of 9am to 5pm – volunteering on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis to suit your availability.
Key tasks:
• Assist the team with site maintenance (upon completion of required training), to include reactive repairs, planned preventative maintenance, porterage, and project work.
• Assist the team with grounds maintenance & repairs, to include litter picking, path clearing (snow / leaves etc) garden building & furniture repairs, maintenance of garden tools & equipment.
Days required: Mon AM, Mon PM, Tues AM, Tues PM, Weds AM, Weds PM, Thur AM, Thur PM, Fri AM, Fri PM

Recruitment process: Volunteers for this role are required to attend an informal interview either face to face or via video call.
We would then need to obtain 2 character references and there will be some mandatory E-learning to complete.

What we are looking for:
Volunteers who:
• Have a few hours to spare each week to help
• Are physically fit and healthy to fulfil the manual activities involved
• Have knowledge of health & safety legislation
• Are maintenance or building trade trained or holds relevant qualification(s) in any building trade discipline or equivalent experience / knowledge
• Have experience of planned preventative maintenance, statutory maintenance, or reactive repairs
• Are able to work independently and be a team player
• Are friendly, respectful and have good communication skills
• Understand the sensitive and confidential work which is carried out at the hospice
