Befriending volunteer

Are you a good listener? Do you enjoy meeting new people? Are you sociable with good interpersonal skills? Could you support people living with a challenging terminal illness?

Our Association Visitor role might be the right role for you.

We ask for a few hours each week to visit people in their own homes or to keep in touch by phone, email, video, text or WhatsApp

By becoming an Association Visitor and donating your time, energy and skills, you can make a real difference to the lives of people affected by Motor Neurone Disease.
The role involved the following tasks:

Offer emotional support and provide information to people affected by MND
Help people affected by MND access appropriate services and support
Explain to people affected by MND how the MND Association can support them
Record information following the MND Association guidelines and local protocols
Develop and maintain relationships with the local volunteer led South Yorkshire branch
Attend support meetings as well as development events

Days required: Mon AM, Mon PM, Mon EVE, Tues AM, Tues PM, Tues EVE, Weds AM, Weds PM, Weds EVE, Thur AM, Thur PM, Thur EVE, Fri AM, Fri PM, Fri EVE, Sat AM, Sat PM, Sat EVE, Sun AM, Sun PM, Sun EVE

Face to face interview
Two references required
Enhanced criminal record check (DBS certificate) required (organised by the MND Association)

Skills and quaifications:

Have good listening and communication skills
Able to develop and maintain supportive relationships with people affected by MND
Non-judgmental and respectful of diverse lifestyles
Prepared to increase my understanding of MND and its impact on families
Understand the need for confidentiality and the importance of data protection
Able to assess when extra support is needed and sign post to professionals or other organisations
