The role of the School/ Academy Governor is more critical than ever. We are looking for people with the required skills to contribute to the effective governance and success of schools in Barnsley.

School Governors work with the Headteacher to set the future direction for the school and decide how the school spends its budget. You will be responsible for making sure the school provides good quality education and for raising pupils’ attainment; provide support and advice to the Headteacher and challenge the Headteacher to ensure that decisions taken are in the best interests of the school.

We have a number of vacancies and would aim to align people according to their skill set and geographical distance from the school.

Skills and quaifications:

Training courses are available to all Governors to help them to develop in this role.

To be a school governor you must be over 18 years of age; be interested in people and willing to work as part of a team; be able to attend meetings and read the papers beforehand; be comfortable asking questions and being a critical friend to the school.
