Butterflies Dementia Support was formed for people living with dementia, their carers, and those suffering from social isolation.
Message from Julie Brown: I care for my dad who has dementia. I formed Butterflies, as I believe passionately that remaining active has helped keep my dad who is today. At times I have found this quite challenging, however it doesn't need to be. We meet several times every week for a range of activities and support.
Butterflies try to encourage anyone to attend so that other isolated people feel welcome, which in turn brings a true sense of normality for everyone. We are always looking for new ways to support people in a similar situation.
We are looking for volunteers to help support our tea dance sessions. These take place on different afternoons at:
The Boatmans Rest, Worsbrough
Barugh Green Club, Barugh Green
East Dene Club, Barnsley
We are looking for volunteers who can attend one or more of the sessions between 12.00-3.45. Duties include:
Welcoming attendees in, helping to serve drinks, setting up and tidying away/washing up at the end of the session, and interacting and encouraging attendees to get involved with the dancing and activities.
We also put on various trips for the group which you are also able to be involved with and volunteer on if you wish.
Recruitment process: An informal chat over the phone followed by a visit to the group

We are looking for volunteers who are friendly and able to encourage group members to get involved. Any experience within a similar setting or with dementia support would be great, but is not essential.
There may be some lifting involved when setting up the room, so please take this into account. If you are a car driver, you may also be interested in our transport volunteer role.
