SAFE group members- Preventing harm and abuse of adults in Barnsley

Do you want to help us keep adults in Barnsley safe from harm and abuse?

We are looking for NEW members of the SAFE group (sub group of the Adult Safeguarding Board).

You might care for an adult, have care needs or just be passionate about keeping adults safe.

We want your knowledge and skills about what might help keep adults safe – information, media campaigns, services etc

We would welcome members from the minority ethnic and LGBT communities who may not find it easy to ask for help to reduce any barriers

We meet bi-monthly but work on projects between meetings. (travel and carer costs are paid).

Days required: Tues PM, Thur PM

Skills and quaifications:

We would like volunteers with a wide range of skills and experience, but you don't have to have all the below criteria!

Experience -
Lived experience of harm and abuse
Lived experience of caring for an adult with disabilities, learning disabilities, dementia etc
Lived experience of using services

Skills -
Use of the media – what works – can you help us with leaflets and posters
Interest in web pages – content and design
Advocacy – speaking on behalf of others
Training – we would welcome support to develop person centred training
Attending meetings – representing the public/SAFE group
