Can you befriend an isolating older neighbour in Barnsley? Sadly we all now know what it feels like to be stuck inside but for many older people that is going to remain the situation throughout the winter months. Can you pick up the phone, or pop over to visit, someone nearby that otherwise may not have anyone to see or speak to. By becoming a befriender you can offer new companionship and support to an older neighbour. Kathleen (83) in Thurnscoe said: "Every time I see or speak to Nicola [befriender] it makes me feel like I'm still part of the world. Like someone cares." Just an hour a week can completely change someone's life.
