Placement Buddy
Hosted by: Barnsley CVS

The Supported Volunteering Project supports potential volunteers who have a barrier to get into volunteering. Placement Buddies help Supported Volunteers to access and enjoy their volunteering placements, helping to break down these barriers for the volunteer.

The role involves accompanying a volunteer to their volunteering opportunity, as needed. It may also include going on buses with volunteers to build travel confidence, if that is the volunteers barrier. You might also visit a volunteer at their placement to find out how they are doing and give support as appropriate. The support to overcome the barriers is given on a person centred basis.

You would also complete a simple summary, once a month on how you have supported the volunteer, so we can show their progress.

How many volunteers are needed:

Recruitment process:

We want to make it as simple as possible to apply for the role. Please register your interest below and we will arrange to meet you for a friendly chat. If you are still interested, you will attend a 2 hour training/ induction session and complete your DBS check.

We aim to get back to you within 2 weeks of registering your interest in the role.

Skills and quaifications:

We are looking ideally for volunteers who can be as flexible with their time as possible. Supported volunteers attend opportunities based on the days these opportunities are available, and this could vary depending on where the client chooses to go. If you are able to work round other commitments to meet these needs, this would be ideal. You can volunteer for 2 hours plus per week, depending on your circumstances and the clients' needs.

You need to be friendly, approachable and patient. As well as understand the need to support clients to take small steps to independence. Reliability is important for this role to ensure the volunteers can get to their opportunities.

You need to be available to attend an Induction/ Training session for approximately 2 hours and undergo a DBS check free of charge.
