Barnsley CVS (Community and Voluntary Services) is delighted to thanks all the volunteers for Volunteers' Week. People who give up their time make a huge contribution to the community making Barnsley a better place to live.

Barnsley CVS plays a key role in supporting groups and volunteers right across the borough. It helps people who want to volunteer and gives advice, help and training to charities and others who need volunteers. The Volunteer Centre team keep standards high by working with organisations to define volunteer roles and advertise them. They then assist people who are interested in volunteering to find a suitable role.

Rachel Neale, Volunteering Manager, Barnsley CVS said: “We delighted to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who gives their time this Volunteers’ Week. It is a privilege to work volunteers in Barnsley all year round sending them to places where they can make such a valuable contribution to the community.”

People volunteer for lots of different reasons. It can help you gain a new skill, through a difficult time such as unemployment, poor mental health or social isolation, or simply give something back.

Rachel added: “Volunteers come from all backgrounds and help for lots of different reasons. Our team are here if you want to find volunteers to help your organisation or if you are interested in giving your time.”

The Volunteer Centre is part of Barnsley CVS and exists to support individuals into volunteer positions and help local voluntary, charity and community groups develop volunteer roles. Volunteer Centre staff helped with the national Volunteers’ Week 2020 video voiced by Clare Balding and there is also a version thanking Barnsley volunteers.

A range of roles can be found and applied for on the Barnsley CVS website www.barnsleycvs.org.uk. To ask for any volunteering support contact the team on volunteer@barnsleycvs.org.uk.
