Organisations across Barnsley are being encouraged to donate any unwanted laptops to help more children get safe access to the internet and fulfil their educational potential.

Laptops For Kids is a charitable organisation that facilitates the donation, secure erasure and distribution of used digital devices, enabling children from disadvantaged backgrounds to have access to the technology they need to participate in remote learning.

It launched in Sheffield in September 2020 and has since expended across South Yorkshire.

Businesses, organisations and individuals in Barnsley should complete the donations form to advise of any devices that they would like to donate to the campaign.

There are drop-off points points at Hoyland Common Academy Trust, Unit 4 Great Cliffe Business Park and DMC 01, County Way. Drop-off point opening times are Monday to Friday 9am-4pm.

Laptops, tablets and chargers which meet the minimum specifications for use in schools will be taken and Laptops for Kids will run certified secure erasure using Blancco on all donated devices.

Natterhub is providing access to digital literacy and safety content.

Funds to support the campaign in Barnsley are also being collected by a gofundme page.
