People from across Yorkshire and beyond came to the Focus on Funding 2019 on Wednesday 9 October. The prestigious event took place at Barnsley Town Hall. Barnsley CVS were proud to assist with organising the event, help on the day and show off the town to our neighbours.
The day brought together Funders, Funding Advisors and a diverse mix of voluntary, charity and community groups looking for funding and support. In the morning there were presentations from Kate Faulkes from BMBC, Chris Dayson from Sheffield Hallam University and David Warner a former director of London Funders.
The key points from these presentations were:
- Barnsley can be proud of the way the communities, the Third sector and statutory bodies work together. Is not perfect but Barnsley is an innovator.
- Small charities add so much to communities.
- Putting resources in the hands of the community makes it easier to achieve goals and gives better value for money.
- Kindness can’t be forgotten in policies. It’s up to everyone working in the Third sector to remind policymakers about this.
In the afternoon Yorkshire and Humber voluntary and community sector organisations of all sizes the opportunity to meet face-to-face with dozens of funders. There were also presentations from National Lottery Community Fund, Tudor Trust and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
We really enjoyed taking part in some interesting discussions, passing on great information and helping pass on advice - all with lovely people. We will liaise with South Yorkshire Funding Bureau the other organisers, and participants to share as much information and resources as possible.
