Volunteer marshals who dedicated more than 15,000 hours to helping out at Covid-19 vaccination centres in Barnsley have been celebrated at a special event.

A total of 230 people volunteered to help at the vaccination centres in Lundwood, Goldthorpe and Dodworth during the pandemic.

Barnsley Community and Voluntary Services (Barnsley CVS) co-ordinated and managed the volunteers on behalf of Barnsley Healthcare Federation.

A total of thirteen awards were given out at the very first Darton East Ward Alliance ‘Making a Difference’ Awards on Friday evening. (30th September).

The awards were given to individuals, groups and supporting businesses that have voluntarily had a major impact on the local area, giving their time freely and willingly to support good causes that benefit the whole of the Darton East Ward community.

We would like to say a HUGE congratulations to The Exodus Project, who are our second Barnsley organisation to achieve the Volunteering Quality Award that recognises volunteering good practice.

The Exodus Project are a children’s charity providing after school clubs, weekends away and day trips for children and young people in Barnsley. They work with their families and support them with food parcels and other financial, practical or emotional help. They also have two charity shops that help raise vital funds for their service.

At the Volunteer Centre, we aim to encourage growth and development of charities, groups and organisations in the Barnsley Borough, by providing a reliable and objective benchmark for best practice in volunteering.

We have recently launched our Volunteering Quality Award, which is specially designed to help this.

Resolute women's support group is a group set up for women supporting each other with issues around domestic abuse, mental health, and alcohol & substance misuse.

They are looking for new volunteers to help with the running of their in person, group sessions.

Tasks will include setting up/tidying away for sessions, chatting with service users and making them feel welcome, administrative tasks, and promoting the group.  Volunteers can do a mix of tasks, or just one if they prefer.

Friday 4 March 2022

Barnsley has become a hub for donations that will be taken to the Polish boarder to help people fleeing from Ukraine on the 8 March 2022.  The group managing these donations are in desperate need of volunteers to help sort and pack these donations.

You can just turn up to help for as long as you can, between 8am - 9pm, every day at the old Claire's unit in the Alhambra.
