The Children and Young People’s Empowerment Project (CHILYPEP) is a registered charity that has worked with disadvantaged Children and Young People for over 18 years.

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Participation Project Worker to support the delivery of our work in Barnsley.

Candidates must have:

  • Demonstrable experience of empowerment/participation work with children and young people
  • Demonstrable experience of working with children/young people/young adults/families affected by Mental ill health
  • Demonstrable experience of planning and delivering person centred 1-1 support to children and young people
  • Demonstrable experience of partnership working with schools, community and voluntary organisations, and statutory bodies
  • Demonstrable experience of planning and organising workshops, training courses and other events
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and engaging young people in group work
  • Knowledge of child and vulnerable adult welfare and safety legislation (including Children Act, 1989) and related issues
  • Understanding of participation techniques and theories
  • Understanding of Equal Opportunities and Anti Discriminatory Practice
  • Understanding of the impact of the current pandemic on young people
  • Understanding of the issues and barriers facing Children and Young People in relation to their participation
  • Knowledge of and skills in delivering person centered1-1 support to children and young people experiencing poor mental health
  • Knowledge and experience of monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment tools and techniques
  • Competent in the use of computers and IT and Management Information Systems
  • Competent in the use of a range of engagement tools and mediums including face to face, online and social media platforms
  • Able to work unsupervised using own initiative to organise work programmes and to meet deadlines
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Able to form positive relationships with children and young people
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, with ideas of how-to self-care
  • Innovative and creative, working to high standards paying attention to detail
  • Commitment to own personal and professional development
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to motivate others, delegate and supervise where appropriate
  • Flexibility due to significant amount of evening and weekend work
  • CYP Mental Health/Youth / Community Work or other relevant qualification to degree level
  • 2 years (paid or voluntary) experience of participation work with young people/young adults
  • Able to self-motivate to enable working from home, with access to the Internet (Chilypep will contribute to the cost of this)

 

All candidates must have existing permission to work in the UK.

During the pandemic Chilypep is operating home working for all staff.
