Barnsley CVS means Community and Voluntary Services. We are here to help individuals into volunteering and organisations with support.

We were formed in 1978 when a few community-spirited people got together with some funding so a Barnsley CVS could be established.  The purpose was to support and encourage voluntary and community participation across the Barnsley.

Over the years there have been many changes, for most of our existence we were known as Voluntary Action Barnsley. But while locations and names might change we've always had the same purpose and values - giving the community a helping hand to make Barnsley better.

What is a CVS?

A CVS is an infrastructure organisation which is run for local groups to support, promote and develop local voluntary action.  Charities, community groups or social enterprises can ask Barnsley CVS for support.

Barnsley CVS can provide a range of services and acts as a voice and champion for the local Third Sector.
